Who We Are

Each new beginning must start somewhere, and Speak-Up Wahkiakum just might be that place for you. We are a group of individuals who work together, driven by a desire to build a stronger community.

Our mission is to unify our community as part of that very building process. While not every effort is perfect, we know that selfless service weaves a strong social fabric that connects us to one another.  We're doing this by organizing projects, events, sharing skills, and meals, while building relationships in our community.  We hope you'll join us!

Community Thanksgiving

Our first event was the Community Thanksgiving of 2021. On a whim, in the midst of Covid, a small group of friends decided to host a community potluck, never did they expect to serve nearly 100 people. We knew there was more work to do.

Shoeboxes of Joy - Wahkiakum

In November of 2021, Season Long, a member of Speak Up Wahkiakum, started up a Wahkiakum chapter of Shoeboxes of Joy, a Christmas program with origins in Pacific County. in 2007, Shoeboxes of Joy was founded by DeAnn Kettwig, who was looking for a way to reach out to local elderly and disabled residents who were without family during the holidays, by bringing them a special and, useful, gift.

Community Breakfasts

After the success of our Community Thanksgiving Potluck, and obvious need for "connection", we decided to take our "uniting of community" one step further. Free Community Breakfasts began in December of 2021. The first month we offered self-serve pancakes. In January of 2022, we decided to switch to biscuits and gravy, now we have so many attendees, who bring items, that we have to add space.

Community Education

With the help of local community members, we've have been able to collaborate by share our gifts and our talents through various classes and workshops.   From Constitution Classes to Beginning Gardening, Homeschool workshops, Photography 101 and more. Together, anything is possible.
